Today, we’re going to take a look at a natural and beneficial supplement to your health and exercise performance: Beets. Beets, popular around the world and full of vitamins and minerals are a go-to supplement for athletes and many others seeking improved exercise performance and additional health benefits.
Beets contain nitrates which convert to nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide promotes increased blood flow and subsequent lowered blood pressure. This effect is not permanent but is noteworthy for individuals seeking heart healthy foods and supplements.

Improved exercise performance makes beets so appealing to athletes and those who train hard in the gym each week. The short story is the nitrates in beets allow us to more efficiently produce energy within our cells by utilizing oxygen better. They are commonly used for endurance exercise. It is best to take your beets supplement a few hours prior to exercise for ideal results.
Supplements are increasingly popular as I’ve mentioned. My personal favorite can be found at Sam’s Club and it is called Nature Fuel Power Beets. There are many more beets supplements on the market and there is always the option to simply include them in your diet. They are full of fiber, heart healthy and low calorie. That’s very hard to beat. Beet? Either way, consider this a no caffeine pre-workout option!
