Which one should I take?

Start with balanced nutrition. We must ensure that we are doing our absolute best to achieve solid nutrition through what we are eating. Multivitamins can help us where we may be lacking. This is where their true benefit lies but hey will not save anyone from poor nutrition. 

Supplementing with a multivitamin can help us “fill the gaps” of our daily nutrition which contributes to our overall health and energy levels. For example, Vitamin D may be difficult to consume in large quantities. Adequate daily intake of minerals like zinc and magnesium can also be difficult for the average adult to meet. Multivitamins can help provide essential vitamins and minerals to ensure we receive what we need each day in conjunction with what we eat.       

As with all supplements, a quality product should be used. Look for a multivitamin with a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification or any other third party testing has been done to ensure that you’re buying an honest product.      

Multivitamins can be rough on an empty stomach so it would be wise to take it with a meal. Some vitamins are better absorbed with food. If your multivitamin is a two pill serving, space them out to start. Take one with breakfast and one with dinner. It isn’t bad practice to spread them out over a day’s time. However, it’s important to know how your body responds to something new. If you find you tolerate it well, move to a full serving.

Taking multivitamins can be an effective way to support your nutrition and overall health. They are offered for many different populations and offer specificity to anyone who wants a focus on a particular aspect of their health. Please consult with your healthcare provider before starting any supplements. Remember, healthy food first, supplements second!
