Is Sleep Your Missing Piece?

The benefits of getting proper sleep go deep into our overall health and should be a top priority in our daily lives. There is no replacement. Adequate, restful sleep is the best performance enhancer in the world. It gives us the opportunity to be our best in every aspect of our lives. Some benefits of consistent, adequate sleep include:

● Increase in daily energy and exercise performance
● Heart health
● Healthy weight management
● Can assist with healthier blood sugar levels
● Recovery and healing
● Immune system support
● Supercharges your brain: mood, attention span, memory, focus, learning, etc
● Reduces the risk of injury

The bottom line is that we need sleep. For those that are chronically missing out on sleep, it’s a problem that deserves attention. To be honest, if you are consistently sleep deprived, it really doesn’t matter what you're doing for exercise or nutrition. Sure, anything is better than not exercising or prioritizing proteins and whole foods. The details, however, are no longer important and I would bet that you’re still struggling to find progress. The issue could be that you’re missing out on the biggest link between everything. You’re concerned about finding the right protein shake or why you think it’s bad to eat after 6pm but you hardly sleep. You’re putting the cart before the horse.

Sleep is essential to our health. We thrive with it. Now, some people simply struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep compared to others. This could have to do with many things outside of my jurisdiction. It could also be the result of a poor sleep schedule and evening routine. This is a discussion for another day. Instead of playing catch up on your sleep over the weekend, try prioritizing it during the week as well.
