More Activity For Better Results

Many of our members ask us about what they should be doing outside of the gym. It’s a valid question. Someone who trains with us 3x/week is only exercising around 2 total hours in the gym.

That leaves 166 hours for work, family/friends, sleep, social events and other obligations. Sure, we are all busy but the vast majority of us do have extra time that we could devote to being active.

This can be anything of interest to you. What matters is that you spend some time doing some light to moderate activity. Anything you choose will contribute to the greater good.

As the weather gets nicer, we begin to run out of excuses to get outside. A few examples that come to mind are:

  • Walking the dog or walking with a friend
  • Cycling the rail trail
  • Walk/Jog Intervals (if it’s something you can do)
  • Golfing, pickleball, tennis, disc golf
  • Strength training home workouts
  • Treadmill, elliptical, other cardio equipment
  • Yardwork

Remember, extra work outside of the gym is what you want it to be. Choose something you enjoy and invite people close to you to join in. What matters is that you’re doing something. Do more as you go. If you don’t know what to do, start by walking a mile a couple days a week. From there, add an extra day or walk farther. Make it a routine. Apply the same principles to riding your bike, doing the elliptical, playing an extra 5 minutes of tennis, etc.

The main benefits of moving more outside of the gym include additional cardiovascular work, burning extra calories and helping with recovery from your gym workouts. Get some blood moving, be modest and go from there. Every little bit helps!
