Omega 3 Fatty Acids, specifically from fish and shellfish have been shown to offer many health benefits. Our Western Diet here in America does not necessarily promote an environment where the average adult consumes nearly enough.
As a result, fish oil supplements have become extremely popular. Months back we took a look at fish oil and the numerous benefits it can offer from brain and eye health to our current focus on inflammation.
The two main forms of fatty acids in fish oil, EPA and DHA, both play an individual role and a tandem role for the benefits that fish oil can provide. In terms of acting as an anti-inflammatory, DHA may have a stronger effect on inflammation but the way they work together may prove to be an indicator of why fish oil in general is effective.
The role of fish oil as a potential anti-inflammatory agent can then provide insight on why some people find joint pain and discomfort relief. Reducing inflammation on a larger scale is the main goal and focus even though individuals may recognize improvements on a smaller scale.
Remember, including more Omega 3s in your diet does not have to come solely from a fish oil supplement. Including more foods like Salmon into your diet can offer proper amounts. I understand it might not be very attractive to have fish every single day and that’s where a decent fish oil supplement can come in. Make sure your doctor knows what you are taking so they can offer insight on possible interactions or dosage.
