Distraction: a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else.
Imagine yourself getting ready for bed because you have an early training session the next day. You’re about to fall asleep and all of a sudden your phone goes starts dinging. It keeps dinging. You realize you’re part of a group text (which I believe should be banned). Now, instead of going to sleep, you find yourself an hour later in the same text conversation. You either sleep in and miss your training session or you come in like a zombie from the Walking Dead
This is just an example of a distraction and it’s one of the things keeping you from your goal. Other examples of distractions are:
- Facebook & Instagram
- TV shows
- Kids games and practices
- Job
- Phone and other electronics
- Big shiny objects>> these are things that momentarily veer you off in another direction instead of staying on course
- People in your inner circle
What we find, is that when people are not reaching their goals, one or more of these distractions are interfering. We understand that some these distractions are actually positive, like your job and going to your child’s games and practices. It’s the other ones that might need to be eliminated or at least, decreased.
If you say you don’t have time to do two to three 45 minute workouts a week but spend hours on facebook, this is a distraction.
What are some of distractions that are keeping you from reaching your goals?
