You Don’t Always Have To Go Hard With Exercise

Exercise at an easy to moderate pace, often referred to as steady state, is very important and is a great addition to your routine. We spend tons of energy in the gym doing high intensity exercise that pushes us to our limits. We give even more effort and attention to weights, heart rates, sets and reps. What’s usually missing is balance. Steady state exercise can be that balance.

You Don’t Always Have To Go Hard With Exercise

Steady state can be anything at a lower intensity that can be done for longer durations. Walking, biking, or using an elliptical are all good examples. What’s important to realize is that whatever mode of exercise you pick, it is not designed to push you to your limits.

This form of exercise can encourage better recovery which is something that we mention often. By promoting blood flow around the body we can help replenish areas that are recovering from our hard work in the gym.

Another benefit of steady state exercise is better endurance. Exercise at lower intensities is manageable and it allows for longer duration under limited stress. These workouts are still cardio based and they support the progress you’re trying to achieve. They can last 30-60 minutes but they should not make you sore or make you feel tired. Improvements in our overall conditioning mean improvements in the other areas of our gym and life goals.

Steady state workouts offer variety from our usual training and can be social. Take a long walk and bring someone with you. Have a conversation. Have fun with it. Be creative while being safe and use this to push you towards the goals you want to achieve in the gym. Go Move!
