If you would take the average age of our members here at First Capital Gym, it’s right around 52 ½.
With that average age, we see our share of orthopedic issues.
For the coaches at FCG, it’s not uncommon to work around shoulder, knee, back, elbow, and feet issues on regular basis.
Take Jon here.
Years of wear & tear on his knees left him with no other choice than to get a total knee replacement in December of 2025.
When he was referred to us back in middle 2024, he told us that his goal was to get stronger and be ready to recover quick when that day to get the knee replacement was to be done.
After a successful surgery and physical therapy, Jon came back 4 weeks ago in our Private Training program.
Yes, there are limitations.
No, he’s not capable of doing everything he was doing prior to his surgery.
To give you some perspective, Jon was on a weekly basis hip hinging, swinging kettlebells for squats and swings, and pushing the sled….even with a bad knee
Now, it would be stupid on our part to think we could put him right back to where he was.
Instead, we are still using these patterns (IT’S IMPORTANT TO NOTE, HE HAS NO PAIN WITH THESE…IF HE DID, WE WOULD NOT DO THEM) but delivering them in a different way.
This is an extreme case but the point here is that you can train around ailments if you’re willing to listen to coaching and you’re smart about it.
