Upgrade Your Coffee

“America’s running on sugar,” could be your typical coffee drinkers new slogan.

Unless you take your coffee black, it’s likely that you’re consuming way more sugar, fat and processed ingredients than you probably realize.

The average cup of black coffee is about 15 calories. Every time you add a pump of this or that at Starbucks, you’re adding on an additional 20 calories and 5 grams of sugar… per pump…minimum.

As delicious as all of those fancy creamers and flavor enhancers might be, most are chocked full of the above along with random ingredients we can’t pronounce.

Even the non-dairy versions include many added chemicals to create that creamy texture.

Sugar free and low sugar aren’t much better.

Thinking about going Bullet Proof? At 9 calories per gram of fat, you might want to reconsider that tactic as well.

1. Having a hard time getting your protein in?

Add flavored protein powder to your coffee as a great flavor enhancer and bonus! A smidge extra protein in your diet. This is a great time to also add in a scoop of collagen. FCG member Sarah S swears by this tip!

2. Change out your milk.

Instead of cows milk, half and half or traditional creamer..give unsweetened vanilla almond milk, oat, coconut or cashew milk a try.

3. Try a drop of pure extract…

Vanilla, almond etc. Wanna kick it up another notch? Try a sprinkle of cinnamon or cayenne for potential metabolism boosting effects.

4. Think honey is only for tea? Think again.

5. Watch out for those little pink and yellow packets.

While Stevia is also processed, it comes from a plant rather than “a plant.”
